DOMESTIC ASSISTANCE DISABILITY SUPPORT

Managing household tasks can become more difficult when you are living with disability. Everyday jobs such as cleaning, laundry and maintaining your home may require more time, energy or physical effort than you can comfortably manage on your own. Born To Care provides personalised domestic assistance disability support designed around your needs, routines and goals, helping you maintain a comfortable home while supporting your independence.

TOGETHER, LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN

Domestic Assistance for People Living With Disability

Your home is an important part of your everyday life. Being able to maintain a comfortable and organised home can make it easier to follow your routines, prepare for activities and focus on the things that matter to you.

Disability may affect your ability to complete certain household tasks independently. You may need assistance with some tasks while continuing to manage others yourself.

NDIS guidance recognises assistance with daily life as a potential support for everyday tasks within the home, including cleaning and laundry, where these supports relate to a participant’s disability needs.

Domestic Assistance and NDIS Support

For eligible NDIS participants, assistance with household tasks may be included within applicable NDIS support arrangements when the support relates to disability-related needs.

Current NDIS guidance states that Assistance with Daily Life can help with everyday tasks in the home, including cooking, cleaning and personal care.

The NDIS also explains that support workers can assist with household activities such as cleaning and preparing meals, depending on the participant’s goals and what their funding covers.

NDIS funding is individual. Not every participant will have funding for household assistance, and the supports available depend on your plan, goals, needs and the applicable NDIS rules.

What Personalised Domestic Assistance Can Look Like

Personalised Domestic Assistance disability support may involve:

The right level of help

Assistance with tasks that are difficult for you to manage independently.

Support around your routine

Household assistance that fits into your preferred schedule.

Respect for your choices

Your preferences for how your home is maintained are considered.

Support for independence

You remain involved in the household activities you can manage yourself.

Support That Works Around Your Routine

Household routines are different for everyone.

You may prefer to complete certain tasks yourself while receiving assistance with others. You may also have particular days or times when household support works best for your routine.

Born To Care aims to work around your preferences wherever possible, providing assistance that fits naturally into your everyday life.

The focus is not simply on completing household tasks. It is on providing the right level of assistance while respecting how you want to manage your home.

Maintaining Your Independence at Home

Receiving domestic assistance does not mean giving up control over your household.

Where appropriate, you can remain involved in the tasks you are able to manage while receiving assistance with activities that are more difficult.

Support may help you:

  • Maintain your usual household routine
  • Stay involved in managing your home
  • Conserve energy for other important activities
  • Maintain a more comfortable living environment
  • Build confidence with everyday household routines
  • Remain as independent as possible

NDIS guidance describes daily-life supports as helping participants with everyday tasks so they can live as independently as possible.

Your Support Needs Can Change

Your ability to manage household tasks may change over time.

You might need more assistance during certain periods and less at other times. Your routine may also change if you begin working, studying, moving home or pursuing new activities.

Personalised support allows your domestic assistance to be considered in the context of your current needs and goals.
